How do I extract specific pages from a PDF?

Upload your PDF, then select the Extract Range mode. In the text field, type the pages you want using commas and dashes — for example, 1-3, 5, 8-10 extracts pages 1 through 3, page 5, and pages 8 through 10. Click "Split PDF" and download the new file containing only those pages. Page numbers are 1-based and must be within the total page count of your document.

How do I split a PDF into equal parts?

Upload your PDF, then select the Split Every N Pages mode. Enter a number — for example, 2 — and the tool will create a separate PDF for every 2-page chunk. A 10-page PDF split every 2 pages produces 5 files: pages 1–2, 3–4, 5–6, 7–8, and 9–10. The output is bundled into a ZIP archive for easy downloading. This is perfect for dividing long reports, presentations, or scanned batches into manageable sections.

Can I save every page as a separate PDF file?

Yes. Select the Extract All Pages mode and click "Split PDF." The tool creates one individual PDF for every page in your document and bundles them into a single ZIP archive. Each file is named sequentially, such as page-1.pdf, page-2.pdf, and so on. This is useful when different recipients need different pages, or when a portal requires each document page as a separate upload.

Can I use the PDF Splitter offline?

Yes. After you load the page once, the splitter works without an internet connection. It uses only the client-side pdf-lib and JSZip libraries, which are loaded when you first open the page. There are no external API calls, no cloud processing, and no server dependencies. This makes it perfect for working with sensitive documents on restricted networks or while traveling.

Is there a file size or page count limit?

There are no file size or page count limits. Split a 10-page brochure or a 1,000-page legal document — the tool treats them the same. We believe free utilities should actually be free, with no artificial caps that force you to upgrade. If you are extracting hundreds of pages at once, the ZIP download may take a moment to prepare.

Does splitting a PDF reduce quality or change formatting?

No. The PDF Splitter uses pdf-lib's native page-copying API, which transfers page content at full fidelity. Text remains sharp, images retain their original resolution, and vector graphics stay intact. The tool does not re-encode, rasterize, or compress your content. The only change is that pages are reorganized into one or more new files.

Are password-protected or encrypted PDFs supported?

No. Password-protected, encrypted, or DRM-protected PDFs cannot be opened by client-side JavaScript libraries without the decryption key. If you upload a protected PDF, the tool will show an error message. You must remove the password protection using the original software that created the PDF before splitting it here.

The tool will create a new PDF containing every page except page 5. Save the new file and discard the original.

Can I add or rearrange pages during splitting?

No. The PDF Splitter extracts pages in their original order. If you need to rearrange pages — for example, moving page 10 to position 3 — you should first use the PDF Splitter to extract the pages individually, then use our PDF Merger to recombine them in your desired order. This two-step workflow gives you full control over page sequence.
