AI Chat Archive Viewer:
browse, search, and save your ChatGPT & Claude history

Drop your ChatGPT or Claude data-export ZIP and get your whole chat history back: readable conversations, full-text search, images inline, and one-click export of any chat to PDF, Word, or Markdown. 100% in your browser. No upload, no signup, no size tier.

Updated July 2026

Drop your ChatGPT or Claude export here

The export ZIP as-is, or conversations.json on its own (.zip, .json, .jsonl). Both providers at once works too.

What to keep in mind

  • ChatGPT and Claude exports only (for now): Gemini's Takeout activity log and Grok have no stable readable format yet; support is planned.
  • Deleted chats are not in the export: if a conversation was deleted or temporary, no viewer can recover it; the ZIP simply never contained it.
  • Claude exports carry text only: Anthropic includes pasted-document text but not image or file binaries, so Claude images show as named placeholders.
  • Very long chats export best as Markdown or Word: PDF rendering of chats with hundreds of messages can be slow in the browser; Markdown is instant at any size.

How it works

1

Drop your export ZIP

Drag in the data export from ChatGPT, Claude, or both at once. Files are parsed in your browser and never uploaded anywhere.

2

Browse & search everything

Every conversation appears in a readable thread with images inline. Full-text search finds any prompt or answer across your entire history in seconds.

3

Export any conversation

Save a single chat as PDF, Word, or Markdown, copy it to the clipboard, or download your whole history as a ZIP of Markdown files.

Frequently asked questions

What is the Best Answer Hub AI Chat Archive Viewer?

The Best Answer Hub AI Chat Archive Viewer is a free browser tool that opens the data-export ZIP from ChatGPT or Claude. Drop the file in and every conversation becomes readable again: browse them like the original chat, search all of them at once, and save any chat as PDF, Word, or Markdown. Everything runs on your device, with no upload and no signup. Updated July 2026.

How do I export my ChatGPT history in the first place?

In ChatGPT, open Settings, then Data controls, then Export data. OpenAI emails a download link that can take anywhere from minutes to a few days to arrive on large accounts, and the link expires 24 hours after it lands, so download the ZIP promptly. Then drop that ZIP straight into the Best Answer Hub AI Chat Archive Viewer, no unzipping needed.

What do I do with the conversations.json file? It looks unreadable.

That file is your entire ChatGPT history as raw JSON, usually a single enormous line, with each conversation stored as a branching tree rather than a readable thread. The Best Answer Hub AI Chat Archive Viewer decodes that structure: drop in the export ZIP, or conversations.json by itself, and every chat appears as a normal, readable conversation again.

Is it safe to upload my ChatGPT or Claude export to a viewer website?

Treat an export like a sensitive document: it can contain names, phone numbers, API keys, pasted contracts, and personal history. The Best Answer Hub AI Chat Archive Viewer never uploads anything. Parsing happens inside your browser, which you can verify by watching the Network tab or going offline before loading the file. Viewer sites that require an account keep your history on their servers instead.

Why does the chat.html file in my export crash my browser?

chat.html packs your entire history into one page, and past a certain size (users have reported 160 MB files) browsers lock up trying to render it. The Best Answer Hub AI Chat Archive Viewer avoids that failure mode: the export is parsed in a background worker and only one conversation is rendered at a time, so even multi-hundred-megabyte archives stay responsive.

How do I save one ChatGPT conversation as a PDF or Word document?

Open your export in the Best Answer Hub AI Chat Archive Viewer, click the conversation, and press the PDF, Word, or Markdown button. Only that chat is exported, cleanly formatted with roles and timestamps. This fills a real gap: ChatGPT has no per-conversation download, and browser extensions only capture chats one at a time from the live site.

Does it work with Claude exports too?

Yes. Claude's export (Settings, then Privacy, then Export data) delivers a ZIP whose conversations.json has no built-in reader at all. The Best Answer Hub AI Chat Archive Viewer auto-detects the Claude format, including pasted-document attachments whose text is preserved in the export. You can even drop your ChatGPT and Claude archives in together and browse both as one searchable library.

Why is my ChatGPT export so big?

Exports now include every image you generated or uploaded, so accounts with heavy DALL-E or image use can produce archives of several hundred megabytes; community reports mention 425 MB and 600 MB exports, with heavy multi-year accounts reaching a gigabyte. The Best Answer Hub AI Chat Archive Viewer copes because images are only unpacked from the ZIP when a conversation actually displays them.

Can I see my DALL-E images and uploaded pictures in the viewer?

Yes. When a conversation references an image, the Best Answer Hub AI Chat Archive Viewer finds the file inside your export ZIP and shows it inline, right where it appeared in the chat. Some older exports are missing image files (a known OpenAI export quirk); in that case a clear placeholder is shown instead of an error, and the text of the chat is unaffected.

How do I find one old prompt among thousands of conversations?

Use the search box: the Best Answer Hub AI Chat Archive Viewer searches full text across every conversation, titles and message content alike, and shows a snippet of the matching passage. That is usually the whole reason people open their export, because the ChatGPT app itself only recently gained history search and older accounts hold thousands of chats.

Why are some conversations missing from my export?

Two common reasons. Deleted and temporary chats are excluded from exports by design, and cannot be recovered from the ZIP. Separately, when you edited a message or regenerated a reply, ChatGPT stored every branch but marked only the active one; the Best Answer Hub AI Chat Archive Viewer follows the same branch you saw in the app, so the thread reads exactly as you remember it.

Can I turn my whole chat history into Markdown or Obsidian notes?

Yes, with one click. The "All chats to Markdown" button in the Best Answer Hub AI Chat Archive Viewer produces a ZIP containing one .md file per conversation, with titles, roles, timestamps, and code blocks preserved. The files drop straight into Obsidian, Logseq, or Notion, and any of them can be polished afterwards in the free Markdown Editor.

What about Gemini, Grok, or Copilot exports?

Not yet. Google exports Gemini chats through Takeout as an activity log rather than clean conversation threads, and Grok and Copilot have no stable documented export format. The Best Answer Hub AI Chat Archive Viewer currently reads the two formats people actually archive, ChatGPT and Claude, and support for more providers is planned as their exports stabilize.

Is anything stored after I close the tab?

No. The archive is held in your browser's memory only while the page is open; closing or refreshing the tab clears everything, and nothing was ever transmitted, cached, or logged anywhere. Your export ZIP on disk stays untouched, so you can re-open it in the Best Answer Hub AI Chat Archive Viewer whenever you need it, even fully offline.

My export download link expired. Do I have to start over?

Yes, request a fresh export; both OpenAI and Anthropic expire their download links 24 hours after the email arrives. Once you have the ZIP, keep it: it is your only permanent backup, which matters when models are retired (as happened with GPT-4o in February 2026) or an account is lost. The Best Answer Hub AI Chat Archive Viewer reads that saved ZIP forever, no account required.
